Cammi Vance (aka Darshan)
Cammi Vance, aka Darshan, has been studying the arts of bellydance for over 16 years, along with many other dances and healing movement practices of the world: Flamenco, salsa, samba, capoeira, Horton (Ailey), yoga, trance, Rom and Dunyavi gypsy, folkloric, and many others. She has performed as a core member of Gypsy Caravan and Dalia Carella Dance Collective, and as a soloist highly regarded nationally and internationally. In NY, she co-founded global dance activism network PURE, helping dancers worldwide add inner strength and meaning to their dance while adding their voices for positive change. Next to dance, she is also a licensed massage therapist and a certified personal trainer working with athletes and performers as well as injury rehab clients and the general population. Her teaching style is accentuated by an informed and intuitive sense of the body, and a strong, honest, and edgy sense of dance. One of her goals is to help people find their own ideal physical practice for wellness, with dance at the core. www.darshandances.com
Silvia Salamanca
Silvia Salamanca is a life-long dancer from Mallorca, Spain. She graduated at the age of nineteen as a major in ballet and performed professionally as a modern dancer in major Europe festivals with the contemporary dance company of the University of Barcelona.
She started her career as a belly dancer in 2001, when realizing the enormous benefits that this art-form brings to women in both body and spirit (something that she felt truly missing in other dance practices). From her first teachers, Tasnim Melendres and the acclaimed Nur Banu, two natural born-Egyptians, she realized how with the practice of belly dance that women can get closer to their self identity and discover oneself in a new level, increasing self-esteem, releasing stress and getting deeply in touch with the feminine essence in their soul. With her work in the field of Zambra Mora (spanish gypsy-oriental dance fusion) Silvia has gained international recognition and is currently invited to teach workshops and perform in major festivals in Europe and across the USA.
Silvia is also the codirector of Shunyata Belly Dance, the tribal-style company that captivates audiences at the Texas Renaissance Festival and has recently launched its first DVD.
Silvia's activities are based in Houston, and there you can find her performing regularly in a variety of venues, as a soloist, or as member of her beloved troupes Urban Gypsy and Sisters of avalon.
Nevertheless, Silvia's true passion is in teaching, and she is honored to hold classes (both egyptian style and tribal style) in her own studio in Houston and be a member of the teaching staff at the acclaimed Danmar dance studio in Katy, TX as well as Zahirah Noor dance studio. www.silviasalamanca.com
